Ghee is the golden Elixir and a misunderstood fat, thanks to the Olive Oil fad of the food industry! 🙄 It has been accused of being fattening, accused of increasing cholesterol and is also thought to be bad for the heart because it’s got saturated fats.
Let’s stop this ghee shaming at once because this is the superfat that will change your life. Trust me, soon it’s going to be named as a SUPERFOOD by the whole world!
Ghee has been used in Ayurveda for centuries for healing. Ghee is considered as one of the five nectars of life, the other four being milk, yogurt, honey and sugar. And there are solid reasons for it being given such a high status.
Let’s go through all the reasons one by one
👉 The Fat Burner – Ghee is naturally lipolytic because of its short chain fatty acids (SFCA), which are the best kind of Fats one can have! Being lipolytic in nature means it causes the fatty acids or lipids from fat storage tissues to breakdown. This is called lipolysis. Fats stores are broken down faster to produce energy which your body needs for functioning and thus makes your waistline smaller. Cosmetically Lipolysis is performed as a surgery commonly known as LIPOSUCTION (ring any bells?) Well, my point is why go for LIPOSUCTION when lipolysis can occur naturally with ghee in your body and in return it also gives you the energy to carry on for the day too!
👉 The Cholesterol reducer – Since being young I always used to hear from people around me saying, ghee increases cholesterol, heart patients should not have ghee as it blocks arteries and many such things! But as I’ve dug deeper into it, I’ve realized that it’s all myths but the oils that are sold the market with a heart ❤️ logo are the ones that are way more harmful! Let me elaborate on that. Ghee when consumed, triggers the secretion of biliary lipids which are the route of elimination of cholesterol from the body. Not only that, ghee helps in the stimulation of secretion of stomach acids which helps with digestion of food unlike other oils (that claim to be “healthy”) which sit heavy in the stomach.
👉 The Vitamin Assimilator – Ghee is very rich in antioxidants (compounds that prevent oxidation and thus stop the production of free radicals that can trigger a chain reaction that damages cells), rich in fat soluble Vitamins A, D and E (just what you need for a healthy heart). Apart from that Ghee helps in the absorption of Fat soluble vitamins (Vitamin A, D, E, K) from food and also fat soluble Minerals such as Calcium.
👉 Ghee is LACTOSE FREE because all the milk solids get removed and lactose gets broken down to lactic acid while making ghee. This makes it very easy to digest and so if you are lactose intolerant, feel free to enjoy this golden elixir
👉Ghee has a high smoke point (point at which the oil burns) of 250 deg C which means it can be used for high heat cooking. Great for deep frying and baking in the oven too! When the oils reach their smoke point and start burning, it denatures the protein and destroys it’s nutritional properties. But ghee is the only fat that can be re-used for deep frying and it’s properties won’t be compromised.
👉Ghee has saturated fats but the most unique ones, the best known saturated fats are present in mother’s milk and after that it’s ghee! These kind of saturated fats are very essential for brain function since our brain is 60% fat!
👉This super-fat will decrease the Glycemic index when added to Rice and applied on chapatis. (lower the GI, lesser are chances of getting insulin spikes). It’s great news for people with diabetes.
👉Ghee is pre-biotic, that means it creates an ideal environment for the pro-biotic (gut friendly) bacteria to work. And you really want your gut bacteria to be present and work because it is what will determine the the brain’s ability to function at it’s full potential.
👉Repeated insulin spikes destroy the thyroid gland. In order to avoid the sudden insulin spike and support the thyroid gland function, use GHEE. It’s amazing for people with hypo/hyper thyroid function.
👉 Ghee helps moisturize dry skin and hair. Ghee is not just used for cooking but also for topical moisturizer. My friend’s daughter had eczema issues, they didn’t like the prescribed steroids so they decided to go the traditional Indian way and apply ghee daily on her skin, she is eczema free now! Similarly it also fights dryness of the scalp and grows lustrous hair.
So, remember to add one TSP of ghee to your breakfast, lunch and dinner and feel the difference in a few days. But make sure, the ghee is homemade (Ghee Recipe), and not the processed store bought one. At the end all I would like to say that this NUTRITIONAL POWERHOUSE is for anyone and everyone. You should bring it in your life if you still haven’t and feel the difference!
