Fenugreek seeds or Methi Dana are small brown seeds which have a bitter undertone but a very pleasing flavour. It has a maple essence to it with a sweet smell. The plant Fenugreek is harvested for its seeds and leaves. Apart from it’s flavouring properties, it has numerous health benefits.

  • Fenugreek seeds may help regulate (or lower) blood sugar levels in diabetic people as it helps increase insulin sensitivity.
  • Fenugreek may help increase milk production in breastfeeding mothers (tried and tested!)
  • Fenugreek seeds can help manage weight as they are rich source of fibre which will help cut the cravings.
  • For centuries fenugreek seeds have been use in treating digestive ailments such as acidity and flushing out toxins to improve bowel movements.
  • Fenugreek seeds are believed to contain rich amounts of Vitamin A, B1, B2, C, niacin, choline and many other functional elements.
  • Fenugreek seed extract and leaves are one of the most ancient medicinal herbs that contain beta carotene, ascorbate, iron, calcium, zinc, fibre, even more than the regular food items.

Fresh fenugreek leaves are used in many Indian dishes such as potatoes, lentils and even flat breads. Dried fenugreek leaves known as “Kasuri Methi” is gently rubbed and sprinkled on cooked Indian curries/dishes to enhance their flavour.
